Thomas Preston - Headquarters Staff Officer

Thomas Preston is an twenty-five year retired veteran of the New Jersey State Police.  He served as a general road duty trooper and a station detective in Troop “B” (north NJ).  He was the recipient of multiple Mothers Against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D.) awards for drunk driving enforcement and was awarded the Certificate of Commendation for “Outstanding Criminal Arrest in a Dangerous Encounter.”

He served as a detective sergeant at the Meadowlands Station for three years before moving to the Internal Affairs Investigation Bureau as an investigator and then supervisor of investigators.  He currently is the assistant unit head of the Civil Proceedings Unit. 

Thomas Preston graduated Magna Cum Laude from Trenton State College (College of New Jersey). He received his Juris Doctorate degree from Rutgers Law School in Newark and passed the New Jersey Bar Exam prior to beginning his career with the State Police.

He has two daughters and enjoys serving his community as a swim team board member, volunteer, and coach.
